Sapphire Coast Day Trips: Pambula

Another timeless day dawns at Pambula, a name derived from the Yuin Aboriginal word meaning “Two Waters”.

The pretty coastal village of Pambula (pop 1,150) is big on history, with the discovery of gold in local rivers in the mid 1800’s. Some of Pambula’s lovely historic buildings date back to this industrious time, with bull-nose verandahs, a town clock and lovingly tended street gardens. It’s a bustling little place, and with over one hundred businesses it’s surprising and refreshing not to see any chain stores or traffic lights.
Just over five hours drive from Sydney, three hours from Canberra and six hours from Melbourne, the Sapphire Coast is an easy long weekend destination.
What I love about Pambula is its vintage streetscape and authentic shopping, the iconic Pambula Rivermouth and the stunning beaches.

Below are my recommendations of things to see and do in Pambula!

WHERE TO GET COFFEE

Toast is a unique social dining venue for the locals as well as visitors to the beautiful little town of Pambula. Inspired by the local community, the licensed cafe offers a brunch menu during the day and tapas for evening diners.

WHERE TO EAT

Longstocking Brewery is nestled among the rich, green river flats and rustic buildings of Oaklands on the fringe of Pambula Village.
All of their beers and ciders are passionately crafted and brewed on site by master brewers. Their tasting paddles allow you to choose your own journey through the flavours, and explore a generous selection of ales and lagers, a much loved ginger beer and a sweet and sour cider.
Pair your tasting with a selection of award-winning Sydney Rock Oysters from Sapphire Coast estuaries and local cheeses and enjoy the comforts of their expansive deck area, and indoor lounge and bar.
Oaklands is a family friendly destination, with petting barn, trail rides, gallery, cafe, event centre and garden centre.

Bush Fires

31.12.2019

Sadly my trip was cut short due to the horrific bush fires that engulfed the NSW South Coast. I was only able to stay a couple of days and explore one town, that being Pambula, before being asked to evacuate because it was too dangerous. I have never experienced any thing like this before and my heart absolutely aches for all of those people who have lost their homes and loved ones.
