Day trips from London: The Cotswold
If you’re visiting London, you might want to consider scheduling in a day trip to visit a few other destinations just outside of the city. The transportation system within the UK allows you to easily travel within the country at a pretty affordable rate. Some day trip destinations outside of London could be York, Oxford, Brighton, Bath, or–my personal favourite–The Cotswolds.
Imagine, rolling green hills, quaint little villages and a huge amount of history. There are so many places in the Cotswold that you’ll almost be spoilt for choice.
And you know what, that’s what I love most – there’s a surprise around each and every winding road.
Now, whether it’s your first, fifth or fiftieth time exploring the pretty spots in England, I’d always recommend a little gallivant to the Cotswolds. It really is a stunning place. That being said, it can be tricky to narrow down the little villages and places in the Cotswolds to visit, especially on a shorter trip.
That’s why I wanted to show you some of my firm favourites to see. Some are larger villages, some smaller towns and some are just countryside spots, but what they all have in common is they really are some of the best places in the Cotswolds to explore.
Take a look below at some of the best places in the Cotswolds to explore. You’ll have an epic time!
1. BOURTON-ON-THE-WATER
Perched on the River Windrush, Bourton-on-the-Water is one of the best places in the Cotswolds to explore ‘ye olde England’.
With a heap of historical properties (dating hundreds of years back), it really is a stunning place to walk around and spend a few hours discovering it’s hidden gems.
If all that exploring has your tummy rumbling, pop into Bakery on the Water which have the best pastries and buns.
2. CHIPPING CAMPDEN
Chipping Campden is a masterpiece of ancient houses and limestone craftsmanship. This is an old wool merchants town that is full of charm and is one of the most picturesque villages in the cotswold. The village’s adorable high street makes has a selection of restaurants and pubs and is ideal for having dinner after a long day of travel.
3. STOW-ON-THE-WOLD
Stow-on-the-Wold is a delightful market town and perhaps the best known of the small Cotswold towns. The thing that might inspire people to visit this village is old doors and magical superstitions.
With side streets featuring stone cottages just begging to be photographed and a bustling main street with plenty of cute shops to explore and tea rooms to choose from, spending a couple hours in Stow-on-the-Wold is easy to do.
The only thing that ruins the magic of the Cotswold a little is the cars.
